HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
The usual monthly meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers, at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. There were present: His Worship, the Mayor, Mr I. Coates (in the chair), ami Ors. Dey, Salmon, Wood, Tippen, Davey, Bell, Parr, Scott, and Jones. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Audit Account.—The Auditor-General again wroto, demanding the payment of the fees in connection with the last audit.— Letter received. Rates Remitted.—Mr G. S. Barker wrote, asking that he be exempted from payment of rates, as he had not any meaus. The request was granted. Boat-sued. —Mr J. T. Fisher, hon. sec. to the new formed rowing club in Hamilton, applied for permission to erect a boatshed, o0 feet by, 10' feet, on the foreshore of the liver, opposite Messrs'Coates flax mill.' The request was granted* conditionally, that should the ground be required by the Council, the club will remove the shed on three months' notice. Lisii! Kiln.—A request from Mr W. Gannell, for permission to uso tho strip of land behind his allotment,., to erect a lime 'kiln thereon, Was granted on similar conditions as the foregoing. Resignation.—Mr W. Peacock, Borough" foreman, tended his resignation as in consequence of "old age and infirmity, he was unable to carry out his duties, if convenient, tho resignation to date from next meeting, so as to allow of his successor being appointed. This resignation was a surprise to all present, and the whole of the Councillors spoke as to the faithful way in which Mr Peacock had always served the Council, and they expressed a hope that he would reconsider his decision. Cr. Jones moved that the Mayor see Mr Peacock and request him to reconsider his determination to resign, and report to an adjourned meeting to be held on Thursday night (to-night). Seconded by Or. Parr and carried unatuinously. Hospital Contribution.—lt was decided to pay the balance of the Hospital contribution, £30 18s 6d, at once so as to allow jf subsidy being received on it. •• Accounts.-rPaymentofaccountsamount-jng to"£s 17« 10$ d was authorised.;;, • Works The s wpirks committee report was road, it recommended that tenders be called for at once by the Domain Board, for cleaning out the domain drain, that the school bridge which is need of repairs be seen to at once, and that by-law No. 5 be so amended, as to include all the bridges in the borough. Received. Repouts.-—The usual monthly reports were read and received from the foreman of works, dog registrar, and pound keeper. Poll. —In accordance with notice given, Cr. Jones moved that a poll of the burgesses be taken to determine whether £1000 of the £G,OOO loan should be taken from the special fund account and transferred to the general account, with the view of paying off the overdraft of the Council, and of lending the Hamilton Domain Board a sum sufficient to pay off their overdraft. Seconded by Cr. Wood and carried unaminously. The day for taking the poll was fixed for iVednesdiiy, the 2Gth instant. This was all the business.
