WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual mojithly meeting of the Waip/i County Coiiucil was hold at the Council' Chambers, Ohaupo, on Tuesday at 10'30 a.m. There were presenters. Lang, chairman, Dawson, Smith, Anderson, Teasdale,' Finch, Ridler, and Hunter. Mr Armstrong, County Engineer, was also in attendance, The minutes of last meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence read and adopted. Enoineeb's Report.—ln his monthly report the engineer stated that ho had received three tenders for the formation works at Rangiiohia, and had accepted the lowest, Mr R. Cunninorham's. With reference to the road from Hall's gate to Maunder's corner he recommended that it should be reformed and gravelled, and the side drains improved. The contractor for the Ohot« creek bridge, who had beon somewhat late in starting operations, had now got the work well in hand, and will have it finished in about three weeks. In view of the intended use of traction engines he had instructed the contractor to put in an extra stringer in the centre span and under strutt the end spans, and when tin's is done the bridge will be able to carry the heaviest engine in the district. The small bridge at Frankton had been injurod by a passing traction engine, one of the sills being broken and the level of the structure (depressed. /The bridge is, however, safe for ordinary traffic In the event of re-building, he thought it would be better to re-place it with 2ft. pipes. The decking of Dinsdalo's bridgo suffered by the crossing of tho same engine, but only to the extent of the breaking of a few planks. A second culvert on the Hamifton-yVhata-whata road had given way, and Or. Ridler had it made safe for traffic. The lowest tenderer for the deepening of the outfall drain on the Hamilton-Whatawhata swamp road not having taken up the contract, fresh tenders were called for. —The report was received. Expenses.—The clerk was allowed 5s expenses for attending the court at Hamilton with reference to the bridges,'and £3 3s for oxpenses in connection with the late summons cases, which ho had lately conducted. Sxaughtkkjn'g.— The police officer, at Ngartiawahia stated that lie called on Messrs Starr and Lanib with reference to their slaughtering licenses, and they had not got licenses, and, they said, there was no necessity to have them. Proceedings, he stated, would be taken against them at once. Hospital Valuation.—ln reply to a letter from tho Hospital Board asking for the amount on the valuation roll as supplied by the Property-tax Commissioner, the. Clerk was instructed to forward the information required, and at the same time to forward the amount really ratable, (that is after deducting for the amount supplied hv the Property-tax Commissioners the valuation of churches, hospitals, schools etc., upon which rates are not collected), and to state that the Council would resist payment of a contribution made on any other basis than that of the real ratable value. Ai.kxandha RiiSßiiVß. Mr D. Cue's application to have his lease of the Alexandra Reserve amended was again brought up. Or. Finch said that he had received a petition extensively signod by the inhabitants of Alexandra praying that no alteration be made in the tenure of this reserve, as there was no other recreation ground in Alexandra. It was decided that the lease as at present bo adhered to. Tenders.—The following tenders were received for contract 110, deepening tho outfall drain on the Hamilton-Whatawhuta swamp road :—Mclnty.re and Hunter, 44/1 per yard, lump sum-£43 2s Gd ; O'Grsdy and Flynn, lump sum £45; 11. T. Hill, lump sum £37 18s 4d ; E. Rice, 5d per yard; Castleton and. Corson, lGs Gd per chain, lump sum £37 9s (id ; E. Wilson, s',d por yard, lump sum £59 lis 8d ; W. Hickey, 4Jd per yard, lump sum,'£sß 9s 4d.—Cr. Anderson moved that Messis Castleton and Curson's tender bo accepted, subject to Mr .J. B. Whyte subsidising the work to the extant of £10, failing which the matter be held over.—Seconded by Cr. Hunter, and carried.—Contract No. 112, Repairs to Campbell's Gully Bridgo. There was only one tender received for this work, viz., Smith, Higgingson and Offerson, at 23s 9d per 100 feet, and it was accepted. Accounts.—-Payment of the following accounts was authorised :—T. Wells, 8s Gd; A. Armstrong, £12 10s ; T. Brennan, £1; D. Cronin, £1; J. Frear, 19s; M. Fitzgerald, £1 2s (jd ; Hamilton Borough Council, £1 7s Sd ; Clerk, £8 4s. This concluded the business,
