WAIKATO HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

Show at Te Awamutu

The entries for the above show closed on Monday, at 4 p.m., as previously advertised. The number of exhibitors greatly exceeds that of auy of the previous shows. The number and variety of apples are also precedent.v The ladies \are taking the >'grea|est>itttereW.id the proceedings. Thisis the following details, with*which we have been favoured by the hon. sec. of the show committee, Mr Greshara, who ha» been indefatigable in his •efforts to ensure the success os the show :— (1) For -tha Waikato Farmers' Club's prizes for loaf not under 21bs., with scones, buns and. sponge cakes, number of entries, 20; (2) for the Waikato Farmers' Club's prizes for 'lib. loaf, number of entries, 20 ; (3) for Mr Lyon's prize for a pair of darned socks, ■number of entries, 10; (4) for Mr TeasdaleV prize for hand-knitted socks, number of entries, 10. The committee will do their utmost to open the show uunctually at 1 o'clock on Monday, but in view of the very large number of exhibits, all of which must undergo the careful inspection of the judges, it is quite possible that the hall doors may not be open at the appointed hour. In this case the Show Committee will have to crave the kind indulgence of the public. An arrangement will be made by which it is hoped that all crushing will ba avoided. The placo of entrance will be at the front of the hall, as usual, while exit will be allowed only through the marquee, which will be placed at the other extremity of the building. Notices will be affixed inside the hall, requesting visitors to pass on in one continuous stream. By this means the public will soon become convinced that all possible precautions have baen taken to study their comfort and convenience. Those who wish to make a subsequent tour of the exhibition will be able to do.so by again entering at the front doors. The committee wish to record their thanks to the Waikato Fanners Club for their handsome donation of prizes, which, as will be seen above, have been thoroughly appreciated. Large numbers of visitors are expected from Hamilton and Cambridge, from which latter place, many special prizes and entries have been received. The train arrangements from Auckland, Satur(Jay returns from loth lol'Jth, have been well advertised in the city papers, and many are the trionds from town who will avail themselves of a cheap trip of four days to the Waikato. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Bertram, Johns and Potts has been appointed, and to these gentlemen will bo due, in a great measure, the success attained by the arrangement of the various exhibits.
