THE KIHIKIHI ANNUAL PRES BYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL PCGNIC.
A most enjoyable picnic took place here on Saturday, February 22nd, in connection with the Kihikihi Presbyterian Sunday School. The fete was a thorough success. This was largely due to the indefatigable efforts of Mrs M. D. Dinneen, who generously interested herself in a hundred ways to achieve the desired end. Tho picnic took place on the farm of Mr Elmsly, of Kihikihi. The grand view obtainable from this farm, rendered it a beautiful sight for the joyous gathering'that took place there. Precisely at half-past nine the children left the Kihikihi Presbytprian Church for the above farm, being formed into processional order by Mrs Hendry, of this place, a lady who seems to have a natural talent for discipline. The fallowing were the committee: Mesdim°s M. D. Dinneen, Anns'rom?, Andrew K ly. and the Misses and Armstrong. Arrived on the ground, the children and their teachers threw themselves with thorough zest hit > the usual outdoor games. The spread was excellent, a vast amount of culinary skill and taste having been called forth in providing for the wants of the children and visitors. It did one good to see with what pleasure the various palatable items of the bill of fare « ore despatched by the children, while, like Odver Twist, they still asked for more. One little wag, who had evidently feasted well, if not wisely, aud put by a few m tsels in tho shape of a. miscellaneous collection of cakes, fruit, sandwiches, pies, biscuits, etc., sufficiently large to start a confectioner's shop said, " By gollv, I'm glad I put on by baggy coat and breeches to-day, for what I don't eat you b"t I'll stow away !" The children ricei ed a very large amount of beautiful and valuable toys and useful articles, collected by Mrs Dmneen. These were distributed by Mrs William Bond and Miss Manden>. Mrs Fh>yd and Miss Mcfnrine were wi-.h the two ladies above mentioned, though not members of the committee, of great assistance to the ladies of that body in looking after tho wants of the chddren and the guests. There were 100 children on the ground of all denominations. At the close of the day tho J£ev. Mr Griffi'hs mounted a form and said.—" Before going home I wish co ask the children present to give three heartv cheers for Mr Eimsly in the first place for the use of his paddock, secondly for Mis Dinneen, who has collected, I know not how much for the feast, and has done so much in various ways, then for all tho ladies and gentlemen who have helped to make the i-jicnic such a great success ; and for Mrs McDonald for her handsome gift of a box of valuable books, and to all those to whom we are indebted for so much kindness and enjoyment." An extra cheer for " the ladies" was called for by Master .Kennard, which was heartily given.
