A BRUTAL ASSAULT.

A cowardly assault was committed on Mr Wo id, an old man, a resident at Pine Hill, by a young man named Barrett, who waylaid him, and after heating him on the head and face with a stick, he backed Wood's hor--e. and cart over an embankment nearly 22 feet high, and the horse was killed, hut Wood, by jimpiocr out, managed to e.-i:ape serious injuries. Wood dragged himself to Pine Mill school-house, where he passed the night, and next morning was found by neighbours and taken to the hospital.
