SALVATION ARMY PICNIC.
The Salvationists ot Hamilton and Cambridge held their picnic and field day at Hamilton yesterday, which was a great success ; in fact we never knew anything inaugurated by the Army yet that was not a successful affair. The Cambridge contingent, under Captain Wood and Lieut. Grantham, arrived at about 10.30 a.m., and tho Hamilton Corps, under Lieut. Leonard and Cadet Allen, met them at S. Peter's Church, when a united march, of about 70 strong, was formed, headed by thi-ir brass band, and proceeded to Mr Qualtrotigh's paddock, at No 1. Hamilton West, which was kindly lent for the purpose. The rain came down rather freely in tho early part of the day, which greatly marred that part of the day's enjoyment, but as it cleared up towards noon, the people turned up in good numbers, about 200 being present. On account of the inclemency of the weather, no service was held in the mnrnimr, as was intended, but there was one held in the afternoon, lasting over two hours. The band played assiduously all day, which enlivened things up to a great extent. At about 5 o'clock those present, of all denominations, sat down to a first-clas-i spread, which was carried out in real Salvation Army style, after which a united march was formed back to Hamilton, the Cambridge corps remaining -111 after the evening meeting.
