THE ZAMBESI DIFFICULTY. TERRIBLE SLAUGHTER. [IJY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT. ] Durban, December 14. Thk difficulty with the Portugese as regards the Zambesi has taken a more serious turn, and Vice-Admiral J. J. Dandrada Pinto, the commander of the Portugese navy', has attacked the Makololos holding a territory traversed by the Zambesi River. The Gatling guns of the attacking party killed hundreds of the natives, and two British flags previously given by Johnston, were captured. The Makololos fearing that England had abandoned its rights to the territory submitted to Portuguese dominion. Admiral Pinto is preparing to conquer the country to Nyanza. The Pall Mall Gazette insists that Portugal should be made to respect the Johnston treaties. Admiral Pinto exhorts the British residents in the Zambesi to accept the protection of Portugal.
