SEARLE'S FUNERAL.
(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPTRIGHT). Sydney, December 14. The funeral of Henry Searle, the renowned sculler, took place this afternoon, and was probably the largest ever seen in this colony. It is estimated that fully two hundred thousand persons thronged the impressively - solemn streets. The crush while the cortege passed along was so great that traffic was entirely suspended, and many persons narrowly escaped serious injury. All the influential business places were draped with flags of crape in memory of deceased, for whom the greatest respect was entertained. The pall-bearers included the leading scullers of Australia, viz., Beach, Kemp, Laycock, Neilson, Stansbury, Rush, Trickett, Matterson (Searle's trainer), Stephenson, and McLean. The coffin was covered with wreaths sent from all parts of Australia, and Canadian visitors also paid their last respects to the deceased by placing a beautiful wreath. All the leading citizens of the colony followed the remains to the cemetery.
