(BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION'.) WELLINGTON Friday. The Provincial Hotel, Upper Hutt, was burned down at 3 a.m. to-day, through a defective chimney. It was insured in the London and Lancashire Office for £750, and in the Colonial for £300 ; the stock and furniture in the New Zealaud for £500, and in the Union for £100. Richards, the lesee, estimates his loss at £300 above the latter amount. Tho inmates had narrow escapes. WEST-PORT, Friday. The Mawhera, from Mauukau, and Moa, from Wanganui, both bound for Grey mouth, put in here for shelter this morning. The weather was showery and cold. There was a. heavy fall of snow ou the ranges last night. The sea is very heavy. NELSON, Friday. The footballers leave at four o'clock this afternoon, by the Takapuna for Taranaki, where they will arrive at about six o'clock on Saturday morning. Hugh Poland's arm is so bad that he will not be able to play against Taranaki, but Elliott and Rees will probably be all right. _________
