HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Hamil>on Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers, Hamilton, on Tuesday evening at 7.30. These were present: The Mayor (Mr I. Coates) in the chair, Crs. Wood, Davey, Bell, Jones and Tippen. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Foreshore.—Mrs Gwynne applied for permission to occupy on lease that portion of the foreshore on which certain of her outbuildings and bath house were erected.— The Mayor moved that Mrs Gwynne be allowed the use of the foreshore as applied for until such time as the Council may require it.—Seconded by Cr. Wood and carried. Resignation.—Cr. Knox forwarded his resignation as a member of the Council. — Letter received. Furze.—Mr D. Taylor, having cut down and eradicated the furze in front of his property in Albert-street, asked that the adjoining property owners be compelled to clear theirs also.—The letter was referred to the Furze Committee to report on at next meeting. Foreshore Lbase. The Mayor here left the chair, as ho was interested in the next letter, and Cr. Wood was voted to the chair, Cr. Tippen alone dissouting. Thu following letter was then read:—Hamilton, September 10th, 1889.—The Mayor and Councillors of the Boiough of Hamilton : Gentlemen,—ln reference of the lease of sections 10 aud 11, part of lot 407 Borough endowment, we, at the time of the s.ilc of the said lease, were under the impression that it was to bo under the improvement clausc, and now find from the draft lease that it is not so. As we are about to erect extensive buildings on the allotments, we can only do so .under the following conditions, viz (1) To be allowed to take away all buildings at the end of the present term ; or, (2) the Council to pay the then value of all buildings erectod thereon ; or, (3) an extension for another term of tivu years, and leavo all the buildings thon standing.— We are, gentlemen, yours truly, Coates and Metcalf.— After considerable discussion, Cr. Davey, moved that the letter be received and adopted.—Seconded by Cr. Tippen and carried.—His Worship then returned to his seat.

Endowment.—J. Murphy wrote, stating that he was not in a position to pay any more rent on Lot 4, Hamilton East, and he asked the Council to take it off his hands, the rent being paid to the 25th of the present month.—The letter Was received and the Clerk was instructed to inform Mr Murphy that the Council had no power to comply with his request. A Good Offer.—A. Vincent wrote offeiing to paint and re-letter the notice boards on the traffic bridge for £4 15s, about half cost, in order to pay off some of his rates. Letter received. Report.-;.—The Foreman of Work's report for the month was received and adopted. The report of the Furze Committee was deferred to next meeting. The following reports were dealt with : — Dellicar's Claim: Your committee consider that Mr Dellicar has no claim against this Council. —The report was received and adopted. Mr Gassidy's Request: Your committee have to report that they consider it advisable to fence Lots 408 and 409. Borough Endowments, Hamilton East, and offer the Lots for lease by public auction at an upset price of £7 per annum for a term of 14 years, andthat the sale be advertised in The Waikato Times for Saturday, the 21st instant.—The report was received and adopted. Purchase of Domain Fencing : Your committee recommend that the balance of the fencing of the Hamilton East commonages, 30 chains, be purchased at 8s fid per chain and that it be taken up and utilized where required. Your committee havo no report to make as to the purchase of the fencing of the Hamilton West commonages at present.— The report was received and adopted. Works. —The Mayor and Crs. .Tones and Tippen were appointed a committee to examine the extension of Galloway-street, Hines' road, and Rostrevor-street, ond draw up specifications and call for tenders for work necessary on the same, tenders to be in by next meeting. Insi'kci'ou of Nuisances.—Mr C. J. W. Barton was requested to act as Inspector of Nuisances.

Fence. —The erection of the fence round Lots 10S and 10!) was left in tho hands of the Mayor, with power to act. Hamilton West Baths. — Cr. Bell moved that applications for caretaker to the Hamilton West Baths be called for, to bo in by next meeting.—Seconded by Cr. Jones pro forma. —Cr. .Tones moved, jvs an amendment, that no further action betaken re the baths.—Seconded by Cr. Tippen.— Cr. Bell, with the permission of the Council, withdrew his motion, and moved, as an amendment, that the Baths Committee endeavour to procure a caretaker at a nominal rental, and report at next meeting.—Seconded by the Mayor.—Cr. Bell's amendment was carried on the casting vote of the Chairman, the voting being, For: The Mayor and Crs. Bell and Wood. Against: Crs. Jones, Tippen and Davey. Accounts. — The following payments were authorised :—G. Mayes, t'L 3s; W. Manktelow, 7s (id ; insurance, £2 5s Id. This concluded the business.
