ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION.
A mkktino of those gentlomen interested in arranging for a fitting commemoration of the "twenty-fifth anniversary of the occupation of Hamilton by the 4th Waikalo Regiment was held in THR Waikato Times buildings on Saturday evening last There were present His Worship the Mayor (in the chair). Messrs Knox, Pearson, B. Colem.tn, C. Tippnn," and (i. Edgecombe. A letter of apology was rend from Captain Steele, Mr Knox apologised for the absence of ])r Ciirey, and'MrTippen apologised for Mr Cascidy'o absence. Donations of one guinea each were acknowledged from Capt>in Steele Dr Carey and Mr Barton. After soino discussion it was propose,d by Mr Knox, and seconded by Mr 'Pearson, " That the survivors of the 4th NVaikato Regiment bo invited to meet on Sydney Square on Monday next, the 20; ll in«t., for the purpose of being photographed." • It was also resolved, on the motion of His Worship the Mayor, " That to further commemorate the occasion, oak trees be planted around Sydney Square by those present, and that a register of the same be kept in the Borough Council Chambers, and that the name of such survnnr shall be affixed to each tree respectively." It was also arranged that Capt. Reid should be asked to parade Ihe banjl of the Hamilton Light Infantry to assist at the ceremony. Mr Pearson then proposed that the committee appointed at last meeting be requested to obtain subscriptions to cover the expenses in connection with the proposed demonstration. His Worship the Mayor and Mr Tippen, in conjunction with the Sydney Square Recreation Committee, were appointed to lay off the ground and to obtain the. oak tree's for planting as proposed. The secretary was also instructed to write to Mrs Coates and ask her to arrange for a committee of ladies to provide a luncheon for the occasion. Messrs Knox, T. G. Sandes and G. Edgecumbe were appointed a committee to arrange a programme for some amusement in the evening. No further business being brought forward, a vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
