CRUELTY TO A CHILD.
(BY TKI.EGRAPH.— ntKSS ASSOCIATION). Chiiistchukch, Monday. GEORGE and Alexandria Frances Abbott have been charged with revolting cruelty to an orphan girl named Esther Pondrick, 14 years of age. The child presented a pitiable and emaciated appearance. Monday. The Magistrate's Court was crowded to excess to-day, and was surrounded by hundreds of people when the charge of cruelty to the child, Esther Pondrick, was brought against the Abbotts. Dr. Symes stated that the child was unable to attend. The Court could, however, have details ot her condition. He said she was improving, and might be able to attend next week. The case was remanded till next Monday. Bail was fixed in two securities, each of £150 for each prisoner, making £000 in all. On leaving the Court, the prisoners were surrounded by hundreds of spectators, who hooted them as far as the police station, nearly half-a-mile.
