TE AWAMUTU.

Te AwAMt'Ttr Music u, Socik.tv.— In response ti) invitations issued by Mr G. A.. Burgess, who has always taken a lively interest in musical mutters, a large number of ladies and gentlemen attended a meeting held at Te Awainutu (in Thursday evening last, to consider the advisability of forming a musical society. The Rev. R. G. Dolor was voted to the chair, and explained the objects of the meeting. After some discussion it was resolved to form a society, to be ca'led the " Te Awamutu Musical Society." The election of a president was deferred. Mr G. A. Burgess was appointed conductor; Mr W. Patterson, pianist; Mr J. P. Vause, secretary and treasurer; and these gentlemen, together with Messrs Long and Christie, and Revs. Griffiths and Holer, were appointed a committee, and were requested to draw up rules to be submitted for approval at the next meeting of the society. The subscription was fixed at 2s fid per member per quarter, and 30 members were at once enrolled, and this number is likely to be largely increased before next meeting. It was resolved that the society should meet weekly on Wednesday evenings. The Rev. Mr Buler has very kindly placed the use of a large room and a piano at the disposal of the society, and having started under such favourable auspices, and there being so much really good talent in this district, there is every reason to hope that the new society will have a long and succes-ful career.
