SPORTS AT HAMILTON.

The sports consisting of foot races, hurdle, hick and pony race-, called the Birthday (rymkana, passed olf yesterday at the Claudelands racecourse, and were a great success. The beautiful weather induced a very fair number of people to be in attendance, which was between threeand four hundred. Theie was not much patronage bestowed on the grandstand, owing probably to the mistake in admitting free to the saddling paddock. The various events were run without a hitch, and were each capital samples of good racing. The following were the results of the programme : — Maiden' Flat Race. 100 yards. Ist prize, £1; Und, os. H. Booth 1 (J. Petheral ..2 G. McGlashan 3 Booth took the lead at the start and lead all the way winning as ho liked. Hai.f Mile Race. Ist prize, £2 ; 2nd, 10s. (J. Keep, 20 yards 1 ,T. Reed, 39 yards .. ... 2 A. Turner, scratch 3 A. Booth, 30 yards, also started. For some distance from the start the men were well together. On entering tho straight Keep assumed the lead and A. Booth fell out, while Turner closed up. Keep maintained his lead up the straight. Dick and Titbits passed the stand for the lirst time almost level, but Dick gradually drew away, until the third hurdle, when Little Bessie, who was creeping gradually up, closed up, and on entering the straight she took the. lead, and won by about two lengths, Tit Bits being about the same distance from this second horse. Booth led at the start, the rest of the men being well together, the scratch m\n having run well up. About o0 yards from home McGlynn tosik the. lead, and gradually drew away, winning by five yards. Both horses kept well together until entering the straight, wh-ui Flying Mary drew away, BiutiiiiAY CIT (3rd stage). 4-10 yards, and won as she liked. The winner was put up for auction and bought in by the owner for £S 15. A. McKinnoii, scratch 1. W. Met By nn, 20yds 2 H. 15 ioth, 15yds 3 These were tho only starters. This heat was won easily by the scratch man. McGlynn, who scored 1(> points, won the Cup, McKinnon being second, with 10 points, and Booth third, with S. Tuottini; Race. First prize. £5 ; 2nd, Gl. Three times round course. .Mr W. F. Bell's Trooper, 100 yds ... 1 Mr .T. Dalgleish's Maude, scratch ... 2 This race, which, after tho first round, was simply a contest between Maudo and Trooper, created a great deal of excitement. Maude passed Trooper at the back of tho course in tho second round, but tho old horse hung close on to her, and on entering the rails the mare stopped almost dead, tho number of people on the course frightening her. Trooper then passed her, and won by about a length. On returning to the paddock Mr Bell was loudly cheered for the plucky manner in which ho rode the race. 200 yds. Flat Race. First prize, £1 10s ; 2nd, 10s. G. Keep, Byds 1 Corboy, scratch 2 Keep took the lead soon after the start and won as he liked. Footiialleiw' Race. Prize, Silver Medal. J. Corboy, syds 1 A. Turner, Syds 2 W. McGlynn, scratch 3 Turner lead to about half-way, when Corboy collared him and then won easily. Maiden' Pony Race, For ponies 14 hands and under. First prize, £5; 2nd prizo, £1. Mr P. Jones' ch m Little Bessie 1 Mr J. Williams'blkg Dick 2 Mr 1). Loos' b h Little Dick ... ... 3 Mr Sandes got tho field away to a good start, and Dick soon took the lead, which he maintained for some distance, when Little Bessie came up, and a grand racc ensued up the straight, tho maro winning by about a head. Maoki Hack Rack. No Name 1 Nicepony 2 No Name took the lead from the start, and was never caught, winning by about three lengths.
