THE TOWN CLERKSHIP OF HAMILTON.
TO TIIK HDITOIL, Sin, —I think the height of absurdity has been reached in Borough matters, when the Council require tho coming Town Clerk to find sureties to the amount of £750 on a salary of t!110 per annum. To pay a guarantee society means £15 per annum, thus reducing tho salary to £115. Is this huge guarantee made for the purpose of keeping down the number of applications for the position oris it not? It looks very much as if it was. —lain, &c., I'URfi !-'SS.
