Since December 22nd, 2,225 cases,'Of typhoid fever have been reported in Melbourne and the suburbs, of which 246 have proved fatal. Sydney, March 25. The following news from Noumea is to hand :—The local steamer Caledonian has been wrecked in a hurricane and one passenger drowned. The Magura, which left Newcastle on January 7th, with coal for Noumea, is believed to have foundered with all hands. Brisbane, March 23. Flour is very strong, at £14 17s 6d to £15 15s. March 24. A Kanaka has been arrested for the murder of Captain Kane and three men belonging to the beehe-de-mer boat Wild Duel; twelve months ago. He confessed that the black crew deeided to murder the whites and did so with tomahawks. They then seized the vessel, but afterwards abandoned her. Thursday Island, March 25. The "British India Company's steamer Biiricoora, laden with coal for Singapore, ran ashore oil Angelica Reef, near Batavia. She was eased off, but has not since been reported, and it is feared she has foundered.
