Licensing Ejection.— I The election for the Oliinemuri Licensing Committee took place during last week. The result being as follows :—Edwin Edwards, 28 : J. Ritchie, 23 ; T. Lipsey, 22 ; F. Cock, 21 ; James Barrett, 20 (elected) ; David Snodgrass, 19 ; John Robson, 17 ; Alfred Polton, 6; Albert Moon, (withdrawn) 3. At the statutory meeting held afterward, Mr Edwards was elected chairman for the ensuing year. R.M. Court.—The Resident Magistrate, Mr H. \V. Northcroft, held the usual monthly court on Monday, oth inst. Not much business was before the court. County Council. — The Oliinemuri County Council sat on Saturday last, when a large amount of business was transacted. From the report of the Finance Committee, it may be gathered that the Council is in a most satisfactory condition as regards finance. A formal meeting of the River Board "was held alterward, when some business of a routine character was gone througn. Mixing.—ln mining matters ndeplorable break down has occuired at Waihi. The machinery has been found to be almost useless, tor the class of ore, and nearly all hands have been discharged. Mr Russell, who is managing at present, intends, I understand, to return to the old battery [ system. The Crown Mine, at ICarangahake, lam glad to be able to report, is making great strides toward success, under the able management of Capt Coward. Two large driving contracts were let during the week, and a large number of wages meti are on also. The Carsell process people are rapidly getting their preliminaries arranged, and hope to be ready for treating ore shortly. Mr F. W. Smeaton, . Hie assayer to the company, arrived from Scotland per Doric during last week, and has commenced his duties at Waitekauri. Mr Kersey Cooper has got all his machinery on the ground, and Mr E. M. Corbett, the manager, is endeavouring to get the house up and the plant constructed before winter. Criminal,—Another case of horsestealing bv natives is to eome before the Resident Magistrate in a few days.
