A PLEASANT GATHERING.

On Tuesday last Mr Robert Gwynne, tho only son of the late Mr Richard Gwynne, of Hamilton, who had been an old and much respected settler, attained his majority, and tho happy event was celebrated in the Public Hall, Hamilton, by a grand ball, which was largely attended by a host of Mrs G Wynne's friends from around Waikato and from Auckland. The spacious hall was decorated with admirable taste, and when filled with the gay and gratified company, presented a brilliant appearance. The supper was of the most recherche kind, and everyone was loud in praise of the excellonce of the cuisine of their hostess. Tim health of Mr Gwynne was drunk in bumpers of champagne, accompanied by the vivas and felicitations of his numerous friends and well-wishers, to all of which he responded in very suitable terms. Dancing was kept up with much spirit till three in the morning, when the guests retired fully delighted with one of the best re-unions of thu kind ever held in the district. On the following (Wednesday) evening a children's party was given in the Hall to wind up the festivities, and wo need hardly say the jnvenile element received the same thoughtful attention and enjoyed themselves as thoroughly as did their seniors the night before. Mr Gwynne, who is on the staff of this journal, had previously received the congratulations of all our employees.
