Paterangi v. Hamilton.

The first match for the Association Cup, between the above clubs was played at Patorangi on Saturday last, and resulted in an easy victory for the home team by an innings and 53 runs. Of the play, as an exhibition of batting, very little can be said. Hamilton won the toss, and sent their opponents to the wickets. Messrs Alexander and McF.irlane opening to the bowling of Cl.-iudin and C. Shaw, runs came very slowly, tho batsmen doing little but poke and block the bowling, until Crookes and Case came in, tho latter being badly missed at cover point, before ho had made half-a-dozen runs, a little attention he acknowledged by running up a score of 34 by free hitting, before he was grandly caught at long lug by T. Shaw. One of his hits measured 107 yards. A few overs after, Cr< okes was well caught at cover point by Gribble, after making l(i runs by good sound cricket. The innings closed for 103 run«. After an adjournment for lunch, Hamilton sent in Browning and Stevens to face the howling of Crookes and McFarlane. Browning negotiated the first two balls in his ribs, and then succumbed to a shooter from Crookes, the wicket which was never a good one, playing very treacherously. Tim Hamilton men now " proseshed," until they were all out for 23. In the second innings they played just about as well, and were very shortly nil out for 27, thus losing the match by one innings and 53 run*. Messrs Crookes and Case were tho bowlers. Of the play on Hamilton's part, the loast said the better, the scores tell their own tale. The result of this match leaves Paterangi leading for the cup by one point, Hamilton being second.
