MINING NEWS.

|BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, Wednesday. Two local directors of the New Zealand Antimony Company, have received cable advices that the result of the recent crnshings of two and a half tons of quartz sent home, from the gold mine at Jackson's Head is of a satisfactory character, and asking that a large sample should be forwarded. Arrangements have accordingly been mads for getting out ten tons more stone from the mine. Ever since the Endeavour Inlet Antimony mine was opened and worked, efforts have been made to adopt and apply a method long practised in Fiance in running crude metal from the raw ores. The process has just been successfully accomplished by Mr W. A. Fitzherbert, engineer to the Company. Mr Wm. Power, formerly of Wellington, writes trom Sudest Island, New Guinea diggings':—" Colour of gold can be got at the heads of all of the ravines and gullies. There is no wash dirt. By scraping crevices with a chiscl-pointed pick or knife a perse vering man may get 1 dwt. per day, or less in manv instances. I wish to point out to New Zealand diggers, who were at Kimberly, that this is not half so good, and the climate is unsuitable for Europeans to work in without danger of their health. There is nothing to warrant a rush at present. I hope this will be made as public as possible, as it may be the means of saving many men from great misery and loss of lite."

In consequence of the department requiring the services of Mr Gordon, Mine Inspector, he will return from Melbourne without delay.
