THE ACCIDENT TO GUARD SUCH.
We have received the following telegram from Mr H. W. Northcroft, R.M. of the Thames On hearing of the sad accident which has befallen Mr Such, the popular railway guard on the Auckland'railway, several gentlemen here who knew him proposed a subscription for his benefit as a token of sympathy. A meeting was held and subscription lists issued. Mr Northcroft, hon. treasurer, was requested to send lists to Waikato townships, Thk Waikato Ti.uks, and to the Herald and Star, in Auckland, so that all who have known Mr Such may be afforded an opportunity of Contributing to the fund. A sum of £7 was collected in the room. Subscription lists have been printed at this office, and will be distributed through the district to raise a fund aa a testimonial to Mr Such in recognition of his obliging manners and the efficient discharge of his duties, and to assist him to enter in some business or occupation suited to his cripoled state. The railway employees are also starting a subscription list.
