LONDON MURDERS
[BY ELECTRIC TKLIiCIKAI'U.— COPYRIGHT. | London, October 1. The panic excited by the recent murders continues. The police are apparently paralysed, and their helplessness is denounced on all sides. Pier Majesty has been petitioned to offer a reward for the apprehension of the assassin. The Times urges that bloodhounds should be set 011 the track of the Aldgate murderer. In consequence of the recent murders of women the city is in a state of terror. Several indignation meetings have been held, at which resolutions demanding the immediate resignation of Mr Matthews. Home Secretary, and Sir Clias. Warren, Commissioner of Police, were passed. London, October 2. Mr Matthews, Home Secretary, has refused to oiler rewards for tho apprehension of the murderers. Public subscriptions have now reached a thousand pounds. The Telegraph, in an article on the subject, quotes the fate of the Kelly gang as showing the efficacy of offering rewards for the detection of crime. The Council of the City of London has offered a reward of £500 for the apprehension of the murderers, and public subscriptions for the same purpose amount to ,£7OO. The press accuse Mr Matthews, the Home Secretary, of apathy.
