The quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court opened tiiis morning before Sir Jamos Preudergast, Chief Justice. In his charge to the jury, Mis Honour said that whilst the list was 110 longer than bad been usual lately the majority of cases were of a simpler character and generally of a kind in which foolish tradesmen took some valueless cheques. There was, however, one case of an unusual character, which 1.1.0 person was charged with marrying the widow of his deceased brother, the ceremony being peiformed by the registrar, after a declaration by accused that he believed there was no lawful impediment to marriage iu England and in this colony. The fact that one of the contracting parties was the widow of the brother of the other contracting party was <i lawful impediment, but the point to be discovered by the jury was whether the accused believed there was an impediment.
