Hamilton v- Cambridge Boys.
A match was played in the Government paddock, Cambridge, on Saturday afternoon between the Hamilton and Cambridge junior teams, resulting in a victory for Hamilton by eight points (two goals and two tries) to nil. Hamilton was represented by Messrs Tidd (captain), Clarkin, Murrav. Gaudin, McPherson, Williamson, J. Gillett, Proctor, Wright, Parr, Oldham, Vincent, T. Tidd, Johnson and Winter ; and Cambridge by P. Richardson, Lbs. P.ull, A. Robbie, V Sargent (captain), T. Bowley, V. Aimer, P. Rees, H. McKernan, J. Stewart, Pascoe, J. Carnachan, 0. Hicks, It. Arnold, .T. Wilson and P. Uishworth. Two spells were played. The day was beautifully line, and tiie dight wind that was blowing favoured Cambridge. Hamilton kicked off, and the ball was soon in the Cambridge,2o. where it remained until time was called, the Cambridge boys having their work cut, out to stop the visitors from scoring, .I. Tidd and P. Murray making some splendid inns, the, former player very nearly getting in once but f..r niln; running ill his way and upsetting him. Time was thus called with the ball in the Cambridge 25. P. Armer opened the second -pell by kicking olf for Cambridge, but the ball was soon brought back by a. fast dribbling rush by the forwards into their L'i, Williamson and Vincent bring promiueii', where it remained till the I'mish. About I lie middle of this spell Proctor got the ball from a pass, and by a good run, passing; the Cambridge backs with ease, he scored the first try for Hamilton. He took the kick, and
landed a splendid goal. Shortly after tins Vincent got a try, Proctor again talc ing the kick; but, although ho marie a good attempt, thn hall went a "poster,"' The Cambridge boys appeared now to be disheartened, and Proctor secured the third try. He took tlio kick at goal, but the ball Mew wide. The Cambridge boys wanned up a little here, but not for long, and Vincent secured a fourth try. Proctor was again entrusted with the kick, and landed another splendid goal. Time was now called, leaving the visitors victorious by eight points to nil. For Hamilton, Proctor and J. Tidd played best among the backs. P. Murray also did eo >d work; while among the forwards Williamson played the best, well backed up by Johnson, Gandhi, darken. Gil'.ett and Vincent. For Cambridge, P. Rees played the best, Bull, Rishworti), Armer and Stewart also doing good work. The return match takes place on Saturday week. Messrs McCann and Peacock umpired for Cambridge and Hamilton, respectively, while Mr Clarke acted as referee. Hamilton East v. West BoysThe return match between the Hamilton East and West boys, under 12, took place last Saturday, and resulted in a win for the East boys by throe points to nil, tries being obtained by Frank Cowper, Wild and Smith. Hamilton v. Te Awamutu. The following are chosen to play for Hamilton next Saturday at Ohanpo :— Hume, O'Neill, Sage, Hammond (2), von Stunner, Mulgan, Mayes, Jolly, Gribble (captain), Kelly (2), Ryan, Gaudin,Peacock, Cassidy and Reid. England v. Auckland. About 3,500 people witnessed the return match between the English Football Team and the Auckland representatives, which was a very tight and spirited game. The Englishmen won in the second spell by three points to nil, by a goal from the field. As the match was so evenly-contested, another one has been arranged to take place to-morrow.
