Cambridge v. Te Awamutu.
A match between the above clubs was played at Cambridge on Saturday, and remilted in a draw, neither side being able to score. The teams were as follows:—Te Awamutu : Graham (captain), Blackett, Bayliss, Gilford, Clark, Hume, Cowley (2), Holden, Garrnonsway, Given, Brown, Cunningham, Quimi and Sibley. Cambridge : Wilson (captain), Kutherfurd, Hannmi (2), Lnsk, Light, Chambers, Bull (2), Box, Walker, McCann, Taylor, Pritt and Carnachan. In the first spell Cambridge played three men short, the threo lastnamed only joining in the game in the second spell. The Te Awamutu team were much the heavier, but several of their best men were unable to attend. The game was n very even one, hut was slightly in favor of Cambridge, as they compelled the visitors te force down more times than they found it necessary to do themselves. The Cambridge men were also better at passing, and if the ground had been in a better state would probably have won, as they were taster than their opponents. In the scrums the visitors did well, as they could push the home team easily. In consequence of the wet and mud, there were not many good runs made, the best being by Lnsk and Blackett, for Cambridge and Te Awamutu respectively. The umpires were Messrs G. McCann for Cambridge, and Crookes for Te Awamutu, with Mr F. Stewart as referee. The game was played, as it ought to be, in a pleasant spirit, the decisions of the umpires and referee being accepted without grumbling, and there was
not any bad language used.
