ALEXANDRA.

Mr Weathekill's Death. —The death of the late Mr Thomas Weatherill of Rangiaohia in so sudden and shocking a manner has caused universal sorrow to all here and a feeling of profound sympathy with his bereaved family. No one was more favourably known in the whole of the Waipa district from his genial disposition and love of all kinds of healthy sports and the prominent part he took in promoting them. For a long tunc to come his well-known face will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. Depression.—Business of all description is almost at a standstill, all are complaining of the dull times. Our wellknown storekeeper Mr Aubin, however, is not despairing of things taking a turn for the better, as he is now building a considerable addition to his residence which when finished will make it about the most comfortable in the district. The Maori King.—A good many surmises are floating as to where Tawhiao intends to settle his future residence, and in moro than one place people are congratulating themselves us having secured him for a neighbour. When here he was not mado much of (of late at least) and his presence not looked upon as of much consequence. Now that he has left us, however, it is discovered that business generally is not so good all round, as although he had little money to spend himself, the number of visitors he had to call upon him, are now found wanting. From an interview I had with him a short time before he left here, he.gave mo to understand he intended to'return in a short time, and have a house erected on one of the spurs of Pirongia, where lie was then living, as he found Whatiwhatihoe a damp place to live in, and increased his rheumatic pains, so our townsmen are looking fenvard to his return here.
