AN INTERESTING SIGHT.

A oomhwposdknt sends us the following: —"At 8 o'clock on Sunday morning at the limekiln, Raglan Road, whilst an einployd and I were partaking of our matvtmnl meal wo suddenly noticed that the attention of a horse, standing at a corner of the road, wasrivetted on something that caused him much uneasiness. Thus prepared we awaited events, and in a few minutes we were treated to a novelty in beholding the approach of a herd of young cattle, under the care of a drover of a distinctly new type. This patent substitute was nothing less than a tine well developed deer of the male persuasion. He had evidently lost tho company of his inamorata and was reduced to the extremity of giving vent to his superfluity of animal spirits in the company of this bovine crowd. He frisked and gambolled merrily, and manifested many signs of a glad heart. No doubt ho was happy with his selection (natural or otherwise), poor cattle could hardly have had mucn fun out of their rush-up from the Whatawhata flats, and great must have been their relief when their antlered tormentor (detecting our presence) hesitated for a moment, then quickly wheeling to the right about, made two or three elastic bounds over ti tree and fern, and disappeared in tho bush. I may remark that, in all my extensive travels through the wilds and fastnesses of Australia, where I had ample opportunities of seeing nature in a multitude of her vagaries, nothing of so phenomenal a character ever met my gaze."
