1 Hamilton East v. West Boys. [By Fullback.] A football match took place on Sydney Square on Thursday last, between the above teams, and resulted, after a good Haine, in a viotory for the West boys, by three points, a goal kicked from the field by Kingsley, to nil. The West boys were captained by J. 'JTidd, while J. Gillet tilled a like position for the East boys. Soon after the kick off, it was evident that the West boys were too smart for the Kant, but owing to the good play of Vincent, Nelson, and Oillets (2), thev were unable to score, although very near several times. Consequently the first spell mled with no scoie on either side. Gillett opened the second spell by kickoff for the East boys, and by a fast follow up of the forwards they kept it in the West's 20 for a short time, and were very near scoring once or twice, hut for the grand defence of J. 'l'idd and Murray until J. Tidd got the ball, and by a grand run carried it down into the East's 25. The play now, was of a give and take character, until Kingsley got the ball, and by a good kick sent it over the bars, and thus scored first blood for the Went boys. Until call of time the East boys were plnying on the defensive, having all they knew to stop the West boys from scoring. The game thus ended : West, 3 points ; Vast, nil. For the West boys J. Tidd played far the best game, while next to him came Murray, Cossar, Oldham, and Parr; for the East G. Gillett played the best, Williamson played a grand game, as also did Clarkin, Nelson, Johnson, Uowper, and Gaudin. The return match takes place shortly. Messrs Hammond and Peacock umpired for West and East respectively, while Mr A Cassidy was referee, and all three gave satisfaction. Cambridge v. Hamilton. This match will be played to-day on Sydney Square, play beginning at 3 p.m. Ohaupo plays Te Awamutu at the latter place to-day.
