Town Boakd.— A special meeting of tho Town Board was held in the ottice on the 3rd. inst., at 7.30 p.m., to pass a resolution levying , a rate. Present: Commissioners Dobsun, (chairman), Gavin and Hotehin.— Tho Chairman proposed, and Commissioner Gavin seconded, that a rate of one shilling in the £ oil the annual value of all rateable property within the town district, be levied and made payable at the office of the Board on the 4th day of August.—Carried. At this stage of the business Commissioner Ilott came in ; the chairman informed him of what had been done, and he expressed approval of same.—The Clerk stated in reply to question, that with reference to advertising estimate as resolved last meeting, tthe Gazette's price for inserting same was 2s per inch, and that on behalf of the News, Mr Ilott said that as a price was required, he would insert it for nothing, as the Board was suffering from shoitness of funds. The Commissioners expressed approval of his magnanimity. A desultory conversation followed re the water supply, land tenure, &c but no further business was done.
Conckrt,—The library concert and dance passed off with a fair measure of success. The brass band contributed several selections in an excellent manner outside the hall before tho opening. Part first of the concert was sustained by the Mount Aroha Troubadours from Wairongomai and was well received. Part second consisted of songs, comic and sentimental, by several of our well known amateurs and others. The accompaniments were rendered with good effect by Mrs A. Menzie. After singing God Save the Queen, dancing was commenced, and kept up until after midnight. Domain - Boahd.—-The monthly meeting of the Domain Board called for Saturday, the 4th inst., lapsed for want of a quorum on account of the sickness of Mr Geo. Lipsay and the absence of another member, and was adjourned till the 11th inst. Mining Nkws.— The news of the Tui is received with expressed satisfaction, and is causing a more hopeful tone to be assumed in the place, and it is more welcomed as the increased competition in the soseral lines of business, without any corresponding increase of consumers was creating a feeling which it is now hoped will soon pass away. Messrs Mills and Cnrrie, contractors for the pile of new offices which are being built by the Aroha Silver and Gold Mining Company at Waiorongomai are making rapid strides with the work in hand. The shnl I and roofing of the building are nearly complete, and the brickwork is also well tinder way. Tenders are now invited by the same Company for carting some 200 tons of machinery, to be used in connection with additions to the present battery and the new appliances shortly to be erected there. They also invite tenders fur two sections of water-race, which are to hi sent in to Mr H. H. Adams, General Manager, by noon on Saturday, 11th inst. Goons Tauikk. —The new goods tariff by the railway makes so marked a difference that parcels only cost about a quarter of what they did formerly,
