DIPHTHERIA AT TE AWAMUTU,
We deeply regret to see the progress the fell disease, diphtheria, lias been making in the neighbouring town of Te Awamutu, and offer our tender sympathies to those who have been bereaved of their little ones. We understand that in consequence of the number of deaths that have taken place, the public school has been closed for the present. Information has also been received of the spread of the epidemic to Kihikihi. We trust that by the use of disinfectants and every measure of precaution its further progress will be arrested. Mr C. J. W. Barton, of Hamilton, has been laid up for some days past with an attack of illness of a diphtheriatic nature, but is now recovering satisfactorily.
