Sydney, June 2!). Thk Daily Telegraph this morning has a leading article on the Tariff debate in the New Zealand Parliament. The article states the Government had to face the thankless task of straightening the finances of the colony, and were entitled to lenient critieisims. Protection had been brought in, not openly as a change of policy, but as a means for providing revenue, which was the best safeguard against an insidious approach to Protection by an economical and financial administration.
