WAIKATO DISTRICT HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Borough Council Chambers, Hamilton, yesterday, at 11 o'clock. The following members were present:—Messrs Graham (in the chair), Primrose, Seddon, McDonald, Brunskill, Chepmell, Hally and Hunter. After the minutes bad Ween confirmed the outward correspondence was read and adopted. The Well.—At the request of the Board, Mr 1). Richardson, the contractor for the erection of the windmill and pump :it the hospital, agreed to deepen the well at the same time that he was erecting the mill.
Maintenance. — A letter was received from Mr W. Cowan, enclosing the bill rendered to him by the Auckland Hospital Board for the treatment of his son, at the rate of 3s per diem, and also stating that ho would not be able to pay a larger sum than lis per week. The account rendered by the Auckland Hoard to this Board, at the rate of 4s petday, was referred back to the Finance CommittoD. to report on at the next meeting. Mr Tate wrote, offering to pay his account olf in instalments of 10s per month. This offer was accepted.
Donation.—The following letter was received from Mr ].). Robertson of Waiteti: —Dear Sir,— Enclosed please find cheque for £37, as a voluntary contribution to your Board. You will understand that we do not hold ourselves liable for the Hospital on account of men going down from here ; most of them who have been down, have been quite able to pay it themselves. However, I intend sending the Hospital all the money I can collect from the men on account of accident. I would have sent some money down sooner, but have boon waiting to see what I could get in from the sub-con-tractor*. I beg to state that everyone that has come up here from the Hospital, have expressed themselves as being highly pleased with the treatment received from both doctor and nurses. —Yours, etc., I ). RoiiBUTSON, pro J. and A. Anderson. The chairman moved that a special vote of thanks be accorded to Mr Robertson and the men on the works. Sjconded by Mr Hunter and carried unanimously.
Rkliki-' to Nativls. —A letter was read from the Native OHice, stating that as the question of relief to indigent natives is a very large one, it would bo brought under the notice of the Government for consideration.
AwAT.n. —A demand was received from Messrs Hesketh and Richmond, on behalf of the Auckland United Board, for the pavment of 42307 7s 4d. amount awarded by the Controller-General to that Board, and stating that if some arrangements were not come to for paying this amount, their instructions were to take legal proceedings for the recovery of the same—Mr Chepmell moved that this Board refuse to pay tho claim.—Seconded by the Chairman and carried.
Mrs Shaw.—The Relieving Officer in Auckland wrote, stating that a Mrs Shaw from Hamilton had arrived in Auckland with four children, and as they were in a starving condition, they were receiving relief from the Auckland Board.—The Secretary at once replied, that they bo at once sent back to Hamilton, and a reply was received from tho secretary to the
Auckland Board, stating that thov had no power to send them back, but if this Board would send down the price of the railway fare, he would advise them to return.—Mr Seddon moved, that the railway fare be sent down, and that if they still refuse to return, that tho Auckland Board be informed that this Board would not pay for
relief.— Seconded by Mr Briiinkill and carried, Mi'.mmon'S. —Tiie Secretary was instructed to summons Mr W. Armstrong, for the amount of Hospital fees due for attendance on bis son. Roaii.—James Harker wrote asking the Board to make a bridge over a gully in his property, an Hospital endowment, which he held by lease. The letter was received. Lkcture.—An offer from Major Wilson to give a lecture in Hamilton on Maori Legends and Customs, in aid of the Hospital funds was accopted with thanks, and it was decided to make arrangements for holding the lecture at as early a date as possible. Purchase of Hospital.—The Chair-
man's report was read and adopted. It stated that the purchase of the Hospital had been completed, at a total cost of .41782 ss, exclusive of Mr Hay's account. Paymbxts.—The following accounts were passed for payment :—Salaries, .£l7 lis Sd ; relief, £-1 5s ; rates, £2 12s Id ; Sandos and Co., £2 12 3d ; Constable Jones, 10s 2d ; Smith, £1 10s; McDonald, £1 10s; Aicken, £1-1 13s Id; Qualtrough, £2 5s 3d; Maunder £7 15s 5d ; Murray and Spencer, 14s 4d ; Taylor, 8s ; Shaw. 12s ; Parr, 4s; Kelly, £1. ss; Heyes, £4 16s od ; Tucker, £3 2s 6d ; Elliott. £2 2s ; Hatrick, £9 Kis Sd ; Knox, £18 0s 51 ; wine, etc., £1 4s ; sundries, £1 Is 7d ; S. Davis, £2 4s; Kelly, £1; T. Tebbs, £3 2s Od ; Barton, 15s. Lkc.u, IixPENSEs,—Mr Hay's account for legal expenses was raferred to the I'iuauce Committee.
Thanks. —Votes of thanks were passed to Mr R. Harsant for a donation of £1 to the Hospital funds, and to Dr Lindsay for his assistance in procuring a wooden log for Heemui.
Rkmkf.—The amount granted to Pogherty for relief was reduced from 3s to 2s (id per week. Relief as last month was continued for the present one, with the exception of Dogherty and Mrs Shaw. This being all the business the Board rose.
