THE CASE OF INDECENT ASSAULT AT CAMBRIDGE.
Henry Palmek was brought up at Cambridge »n Tuesday, before Major Wilson and Mr T. Wells, .J.F's., charged with having indecently assaulted Amy Wattam, tho daughter of Thomas Wattam, of Hautapu. Constable Brennan prosecuted, and after having briefly stated the case, called Amy Wattam, a little girl 7£ years old, who, after being examined as to tho nature of an oath, was duly sworn, and deposed ; I saw the accused on Friday, the 18th inst., mi the road near my father's house. He said, " Run away up tho road." Ho went with me. He offered me a shilling to go to Parke's corner, but I did not go. She then described the assault. I was sitting with the accused when my mother came up. After the evidence of Ann Wattam, the child's mother, who had observed the prisoner with her, had been taken, and Constable Brennun had deposed to making the arrest, the Bench committed the prisoner to take his trial at the next sitting of tho Supreme Court. The prisoner is described as a miserable vairrant, and unknown in the district. The accused was taken down to Mount Eden yesterday by Constable Brennan.
