SUPPOSED MURDER.

A nHKSs.MAKEIt, said to be a widow, named Mrs Mary Mackenzie, met her death at Uargaville on Sunday night in a mysterious manner. She was found drowned on Monday morning with marks of violence upon her. She was dressed as when last soon returning from Church in the evening, her gloves being on her hands. She ha i been accompanied on her way homo by Mr Harding, who left her at his gate. Screams as of a woman in distress were heard coming from the water at about nine o'clock. Her slippers were found before tho grate, and the lamp still burning in her house oil the following morning. Several weeks ago she had found .some men in her house, and bad since being in bodily fear, but it is not known whom eha dreaded. The police are making active enquiries
