[BY TELEIiIIAI'II—O'.VV COIUtKSPON'DKNT.] ALCKI.ANII, Monday. At the Police Court.. t')-day, Edward Kelly was fined 20s and costs for cruelty tn a horse. The defendant is absent in Sydney. He over-rode the horse in order to c.itoh the steamer going thither. Walton and Phillips we found guilty of stealing various articles fro;n C.ichrane's Auction Mart. Sentence was deferred, pending the hearing of other charges. The sharemarknt was somewhat dull today, there being little demand on any stock; consequently the prices were somewhat easier.
Messrs Tonka and Co. have sold the old Masonic Hotel in Princes-street for the sum of £20. This hostelry may be looked upon as an old landmark, and within its walls there has been many a scene of festivity. The building is to be at once pulled down to make way for a new building. Four hay stacks belonging to Mr Bryant, of Hast Tamalci, were destroyed by lire :m Friday morning last. The lire started at the top of one of the stacks, and soon destroyed the others. Mr Bryant's sons were shooting at hawks a short time previously, and it is thought that a lighted wad dropped on the stack and ignited it. The property was uninsured, and the loss is estimated at £150.
