TE AROHA.

R.M. CounT.—The fortnightly sitting of the R.M. Court was held on Tuesday, Mr Northcroft presiding. Cases : Police t. Mrs A. Thomson. Defendant was charged by Sergeant Emerson with a breach of the Licensing Act, in keeping her premises (the Family Hotel, Rolles-ton-strcct) open during prohibited hours. Mr J. A. Miller appeared for defendant. Witnesses were called to prove the offence, but after hearing the evidence the Bunch dismissed the case. E. W. Hanmor v. J. Broiuby claim for rent £10 lis 6d. Case withdrawn, plaintiff to pay costs. River B»ard. —A telegram has been received by the Chairman of the Town Board from the Hon. Minister of Marino, relative to the constitution of a River Board to be coniposed of representatives from the Te Aroha Town Board and the County Councils of the districts interested in the withdrawal of the extended powers granted to the Thames Harbour Board by the Government. The. Minister desires these bodies to make a joiut recommendation to the Government regarding the number of representatives to be elected from each and the total number of members to compose the River Board, seven being the number he suggests. The main question as to the rescinding of the proclamation has not yet been considered by the Cabinet, but Mr Fisher states in his telegram that he will submit it for discussion at the meeting of the Ministers to be held to-day, (Wednesday). Telegrams similar to that received by the Chairman of the Town Board have been seut to the chairman of the Thames, Piako, and Ohinemuri County Cov.ncil.^ Wesleyan Bazaar.—A substantial addition to the funds of the Wcsleyau Church was derived from the bazaar in connection therewith, held on Thursday last. The proceeds amounted to about £23, but a considerable number of useful and ornamental articles were left on hand. These will te disposed of on another occasion, and will probably realise £12 more. Considering _ there were other calls about the same time on the liberality of the inhabitants, this result must be regarded as satisfactory. Risking.—The approach of winter has brought round the rinking season, and this favourite recreation is about to be commenced. A clnb is now being formed, and the first gathering will shortly take place in the Public Hall, which is excellently adapted for the purpose. The rink wag largely p.ifcronjsed last winter, and this season it will, HQ doubt, be equally popular. Assessment Court.—The Assessment Court for Te Aroha Town District sat today to hear objections to new valuations. Mr Northcroft, R.M., presided as judge. There was only one objection heard, and it was of a trival nature.
