SALE OF JAPANESE GOODS IN HAMILTON.

Thk above sale which took place yesterday iti the Public Hall, Hamilton, under the hammer of Mr John Knox, was as successful to the auctioneer as the promoter could have wished, considering depressed times. For several days past the goods have been on view, therefore it is needless to say the sale was largely patornised by the general public. The novelty in connection with the sale were the curios, which comprised an assortment that even the most fastidious could not help appreciating. What struck our fancy most were the screens, especially those worked in silk and satin, but there were also trays, tea sets, aud every conceivable article in Japanese ware. To enumerate them we have not space at our command. Every accommodation was afforded for the public, and each person entering the hall was placed in possession of a catalogue. Long before the sale commenced there was quite an array of vehicles in front of the hall, and when the auctioneer mouuted the rostrum there were over 200 persons present, including many prominent residents of Waikato, Cambridge especially being well represented. The large attendance is to be attributed to the liberal manner in which the auctioneer has made the goods known through the columns of this journal. The sale which commenced at 11, concluded about 4 o'clock, and realised about £90. The principal buyers were Messrs Browning, Suarbrick, Furze, Mrs Hunt, Col. Forbes, Mrs Hally, Mr Glassford, Mrs Gwynue, Mr Parr, aud others.
