SERIOUS BUGGY ACCIDENT.
As Mr C. J. W. Barton (Mayor of Hamilton) was returning from the Cambridge races on Saturday, the pair of horses ho was driving bolted as they were coming down towards the Hamilton bridge. This was about 7 o'clock in the evening. With Mr Barton were Mr \Vallnutt, of the Union Bank, and Mr Flood, of tho Bank of New Zealand. Ihe animals tore across the bridge and overturned the buggy as they were abreast of the police station, tho occupants being thrown violently to the Mr Wallnutt, we are sorry to say, sustained a compound fracture of the left leff above the ankle, and was rendered insensible. _ Ihe injury was a severe one, and very painful, the wound being torn and jagged. This is the second time Mr Wallnutt has had his leg broken. Mr Flood sustained a severe sprain of the ankle, but Mr Barton fortunately escaped with a slight shaking. Sergeant McGrath, who heard the furious driving across the bridge, hurried out, expecting to secure the names of possible breakers of the bylaws, and was in time to give his assistance in arresting, the runaways, and picking up the wounded. Mr Wallnutt was conveyed to the hospital, and Mr Flood was placed in the polico quarters. Dr. Kenny having attended to his injuries, Mr Wallnutt was removed to the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr Lawrence Cussen. Mr Flood was afterwards taken to Mr Hume's, and attended to by Dr. Murch, who yesterday allowed his patient to be removed to his uncle's (Mr Q Neill) place. We are glad to report that they are progressing favourably.
