Tilj esnrsiou train from Auck land t,u Hamilton mii Saturday brought up a l:*rge numuei' of visill> r-s for the Show, Fearful storms have prevailed in various parts of the colony, and, as will lie seen by the telegrams, in other parts of the globe. . A man named Isaac Green, only 12 months married, wounded his wife severely at T.risbane, on Saturday, then allot himself dead. The Germans in New Guinea are energetically exploring the country and encouraging .settlement. Large sugar plantations have been started. Mr James Forrest, the successful competitor for Mr Parr's prize for the best twelve swedes, grew the roots from Webb's Imperial Swede seed. The New South Wales Government have sent home for a, copy of the procedure rules of the House of Commons, for adoption in tho Colonial Legislature. A mining party, which left Brisbane some time ago to prospect Josephs river, New Guinea, have returned, after being plundered and endangered by the natives. Our sporting contributor "Blue Gown," in Saturday's issue tipped Earnest for the Wuikato Jockey Club's Handicap and the Redwood Stakes. His anticipations were, therefore, realised. The ship Pieoine. wrecked on the Wakanao beach, near Wellington, has been abandoned by her crew. The captain in the haze, mistook Kapili for S. Stephens Island. One seaman was drowned. There is a youth in the habit of riding a white horse at a furious rate through the main thoroughfare of Hamilton, to the imminent danger of children and others. The police should keep an eye on him. Anniversary services were held in S Caul's Wesleyan Church, Cambridge, on Sunday. Tho ' Rev. J. Mather, of Te Awainutu, preached both morning and evening. The attendance was fair. To day Inspector Kiely takes his departure from Hamilton for Auckland, eo route for Napier by the Mararoa, on Thursday. in leaving the district tho inspector carries with him the esteem and good wishes of a largo circle of friends. Our reporter requests us to correct an error which appe mid in the report of the R.M. Court at To Awainutu. In tho case " Norton v. Teasdalo " for " costs were, allowed to plamtilt''' read ''costs were allowed to defendant." Walter Williams, a native of Raglan died in tin: Waikalo Hospital yesterday morning of pulmonary disease, lie l,as been for a long period employed at the Commercial Hotel, Hamilton, and was generally liked. At the request of his relations his remains will bo sent to Raglan for burial his

One of our bakers has evidently been impressed by the wheat discussion. Mr Pratt, (if Te Awaimitu, has very wisely decided to lower the price of bread from the j Ist prow We are requested by Mr Crookes to contradict the statement that a match had been arranged to take place at Cainbridge last •Saturday, between tha Paterangi C.C. and Cambridge C.C. Ho says that, in face of the counter-attractions elsewhere, it was absurd to expect a team could be got together 011 that day. Mr McNicol's special horse sale at Cambridge yesterday, drew a large concourse of buyers together, and passed off successfully. Some of the blood stock did not come up to owners' values, but for hacks there was an unsatisfied demand for anything with quality, and prices in this class readied ,€2O 7s. Draught stock was not much sought after. Mr Mayo, whose collection of pears and apples for exhibition only, was quite a feature in Saturday's show, before leaving kindly placed them at the disposal of the secretary. The collection will be on view in Thk 'Wackato Times Buildings, giving orchardists an opportunity to compare varieties, the names of which they inay be in doubt about. In connection with the Horticultural Show oil Saturday, the members of Trinity Wesleyan Church, Hamilton, held a gift auction in a marquee adjoining the hall, in aid of the circuit funds. In addi tion to farm produce, a large number of fancy articles in needlework, were disposed of. About 1">0 persons availed themselves of the excellent luncheon provided. The takings amounted to a little over £20. Mr Mettam, the newly-appointed bandmaster of the Hamilton Light Infantry Volunteers, hold his first practice last night, arid must have been much pleased to find that there were many more applicants for instruments than are at present at the disposal of the corps. Under these circumstances we would suggest an appeal being made to the townspeople for assistance to provide additional instruments. A very successful dramatic entertainment and concert was given in the Public Hall, Cambridge on Friday evening in aid of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Pressure on our space will not allow of our giving a detailed account, suffice it to_ say that the whole of the performers acquitted themselves very creditably. After the entertainment a dance was indulged in by about eighty couples, and was kept up till about-1 a.m. , the Cambridge band supplying the music. The annual picnic in connection with S. Mary's Catholic Church, Hamilton, took place 011 St. Patrick's Day. It was the intention of those interested in getting up the affair to have held it the racecourse, but owing to tha unpropitious state of the weather this idea had to be relinquished, and the children were entertained in the Oddfellows' Hall. It is hardly necessary to state that there was an abundance of the good things provided, which were thoroughly enjoyed by the little ones. In the afternoon the weather cleared np fine, and an adjournment was made to Sydney Square, where games were indulged in for the remainner of the afternoon. Prizes in hooka and money were freely distributed among the children. A word of praise is due to the ladies of the Church who worked hard to make the picnic a success, which will long be remembered by the juvenile portion of the community. Mr John Knox will hold an important sale of Japanese ware in the Public Hall, to-morrow, which will, no doubt, b) attended by a large number of people t > whom this class of goods is a curiosity and novelty. Tho numerous articles of merchandise have been tastefully long stages, and form a complete exhibition in themselves. We had an opportunity last night of inspecting tha goods, and without exaggeration in the slightest degree, they c rnibine the rarest and most curiois collection of art objects. The screens, both painted and worked are master pieces in themselves The lacquered trinket boxes, shell ash trays, inlaid cabinets, ladies' arena work baskets, tea sets, porcelain and bronze ware, and the cane walking stcks in themselves are a feature. We would advise intending purchasers to pay a visit to the hall and judge for themselves. The public will be admitted to inspect the goods diu'ing to-day, and permission has also been given for the adnrsiion of the West School at eleven o'clock, Hamilton lirist at two o'clock, and the Convent School at four o'clock. Catalogues, which are worth having, can be obtained at the hall.
