NATIVE LAND COURT, OTOROHANGA.

[own correspondent.! JuDfiE Maib opened the Native Land Court at Otorohanga, on Friday last. Taonui, Hauauru, anil a number of other chiefs strongly protested against the Oourt proceeding until a re hearing of the Hurakia block had.been granted. After a number of natives had spoken, the Court intimated that if the business for which the Court was called was not proceeded with the Court would, in all probability, be adjourned to Alexandra. Walter Searancke, a half-caste, came to the Government's assistance, and applied that his claim for a portion of the Rohipotae block bo proceeded with. The Court was then adjourned until lO.am today. Hoani Taipua, the Member in the House of Representatives for the Western Maori District, is at _Otorohanga, and strongly recommends his constituents to oppose tho Court's proceedings until a rehearing of the Taupo grievance is granted them. Ifoani is expected to pay a visit to Tawhiao and his people at Whatiwhatihoe during the week.
