THE HAMILTON LIGHT INFANTRY VOLUNTEERS.

The usual fortnightly parade of the members of the above corps was held on Tuesday evening. There was not a large attendance owing to the inclemency of the weather. The company were put through various movements by Lieut. Edgecumbe and the company sergeants, under the superintendence of Cnpt. Reid. At the conclusion of the drill the captain called upon Lieut. Edgecumbe to read the balancesheet for the past year, which showed that the funds were in a very satisfactory state, notwithstanding the difficulties a new corps has to contend with. The balancesheet was unanimously adopted. Reference was made by Captain Reid to the energetic manner in which Sergt. Hooper had carried out the duties of secretary to the corps, and which the members themselves afterwards showed that they appreciated by according him a hearty vote of thanks. After the formation of a shooting committee the men were dispersed. At the conclusion of the drill a meeting of the officers, company committee, and members interested in the formation of a band in connection with the corps was held. Capt. Reid occupied the chair, and called upon the secretary to read the list of applicants for the post of bandmaster, which was as follows:—Mr Sibley, Te Awamutn, t'lin per year ; Mr A. Williams, Ngarnawahia, £40; Mr O'Connor, Te Aroha, £20; Mr Connell, Hamilton, £20; and Mr George Mettam, Cambridge, £20. After taking a vote, the Chairman declared Mr Mettain elected, Mr Mettam is a volunteer of 17 years standing, most of which time he has been connected with bands having for nearly five years held the position of band-sergeant of the Auckland Garrison Band. After a few other inattors in connection with the band had been dealt with tho meeting closed.
