Tmk usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held on Tuesday, at 7 p.m. Present : The Mayor (Mr Hally), Crs. I). Richardson, J. Webber, A. Bach, J. Ferguson, A. Clements, J. S. Bond and H. Gillett. The minutes of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed. CoititusL'OXDKNCE.—Letters were received from the following : From the Secretary to the Treasury, asking for a statement of the indebtedness of tho Council on the 31st December, ISB7. To this the clerk had replied that the bank overdraft on that date was £0% 3s, and the loan £490. From the Secretary of the Cambridge Cricket Club, asking to be allowed to charge for admission to tho Government Paddock mi the 31st inst., when the match, Waikato v. Auckland, is to be played.—Granted.— From Messrs J. W. Butler and L. Keats, asking for the use of the Public Hall for baud practice, they being guarantees for any damages.—Granted, providing the hall is not wanted for other purposes.—Telegram from J. Sperry, Property Tax Commissioner, asking for a copy of the resolution levying rate, and statement of rates collectable, exclusive of Crown and Native Lands rates, so that advance of subsidy could be paid this month.—The Clerk reported that the telegram was received that morning, and he had posted the information asked for the previous Friday. Woiiics Committer Rkport.—Tlio Works Committee recommended that the tree opposite Mr Boyce's store be not removed, and that the following gravelling be done: — Duke-street, Victoria-street opposite the Colonial Bank, and the footpath opposite the resiliences of Messrs White and Rnge in Alpha-street; also the water-table in Greystreet to be cleared. — The report was adopted, and it was resolved that the Committee meet at 2.30 p.m., on Thursday, the loth inst., to inspect the streets. They are are also authorised to spend £'20 m gravelling where necessary. Finance Committer's Rkpokt.—This committee reported they had let the room adjoining the Council Chambers to Mr (J. McCaun at os per week, one month's notice to terminate tenancy; had called for tenders for the grazing of the Government piddoek for twelve, months ; had insured the Council buildings and salevards for LOO cach ; auri had granted Rev. Evans the use of the Public Hall on Sunday evenings for holding revival services for a term of three mouths.—The report was adopted. Tim Local Option Poll.—-Mr J. P. Thomson was appointed returning officer for the usual triennial local option poll. Com.mittkks. —It was resolved that in future the Finance Committee be called the Finance and Legal Committees. Or. Bach was elected a member of it. Tub AnvKimsiNG.—'The Mayor said the contract for advertising would expire on the 31st instant, and it would he necessary to make arrangements before that time. The last nine months had been done by The Waikato Times for .filO, and the year before it had cost i' J.V-Or. Webber thought it should be tendered for again.—Cr. Richardson thouerht the money should be kept in the town if it could be done for anything like tho same money.—Referred to the Finance Committee, with power to act. Tundbiw l'Oit Govkkx.mkn't Paddock. — Tho following were the tenders received : — R. Bishop, £'•") ; A. Bach, £3 10s, for grazing for .12 months. — Resolved that Mr Bishop's tender be accepted, provided he pay tho rent or gave aceeptable reference within two days. Tho resolutions of !)th ■September and 13th December, 1885, re native horses being allowed freo use of the paddock-, were rescinded. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment:— D.
