BICYCLES ON FOOTPATHS.
TO THB EDITOR. Sir,—Tt is high time that our Borough Council took soiuo steps topass a by-law to prevent the running of bicycles on the footpaths in the township. Only a few days ago a cyclist coming along Victoria-street at speed was the cause of a horse breaking a good bridle near Mr Home's store, and he sailed along, smiling simply at the accident and not having the common courtesy to pull up and apologise to the unfortunate owner. Ho rather seemed to think it a good joke. Perhaps if made to pay for the damage he might smilo somewhat differently. Again, a few evening!) ago, one of these smart young men narrowly escaped running over an infant in Collingwood-street, who was playing on the pathway. Sme'.y our streets are Rood enough and broad enough for these sucking athletes to show off on without endangering the limbs of our children by trespassing on the sidewalks, lerhaps the police can interfere in the matter. —I am, Sir, yours &c, OnSEUVKIt. Hamilton, sth March, 1888.
