EXCESSIVE VALUATION.

Fiutii, ill appealing for a reduction of the valuation condemned as excessive, at the Assessment Court to-day, was more than once called to order. People in court applauded liim enthusiastically, and Judge Barstow said lie would adjourn the court if political speeches were indulged in, Mid Mr Firth said the people were burdened with taxation, owing to the extravagance of past Governments, and like others lie had to mortgage his streef promises. He was asked by the judge if lie would base the value of liis property on the Property Tax, and lie replied that would be appealing from Herod_ to hell. He said he could not state the selling value of his place ; he never paid propertytax Oil it, the mortgagees dealt with that matter. Ultimately the judge reduced the mill from £630 t0'.£330, and offices from .t'2so to £200.
