Tub Minister of Defence has issued a circular, fixing the capitation for the year ending December ISSS, as follows : —Adult corps, 30s ; cadet corps, ss. Regulations regarding the minimum strength of corps, are to be strictly enforced. Mr Leonard Harper, of the firm of Harper and Harper, solicitors, Cliristchurch, lias been appointed to the New Zealand Board of directors of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society. At the Education Board Meeting to-day it was stated that Mr Lee, inspector of schools, who has just returned from a visit, to Fngland, had found that in education matters the colony was far behind the Mother Country, and though the Knglish and Scotch schools were built upon a grander soale the best schools in the district would not compare with those lie had inspected. .
