Bartriss, assistant steward, died from acute rheumatism and hyperphyxia, .and on the following day Mrs Hedger, third-class passenger, died from chronic bronchitis, and on 30th, Jane, the wife of the Rev. Mr St. Hill, of Napier, died at (> a.m. from rupture of blood vessel, and was buried at 5 p.m. The Rimutaka brings 314 sacks of mails and 100 passengers. Some misconception exists in reference to the method of distributing the vote for educational buildings, only £20,000 is available this year nut of the annual vote of £40.000, mving to £11,000 of that sum having been anticipated by last year's expenditure. £l? 0,000 is being distributed strictly on the basis of population, and no partiality is shown. It is understood that the harbour works at Greymouth and Westport will be taken over by the Government. Mr J. H. Cock, of the firm of W. and G. Turnbull and Co., has been elected President of the Chamber of Commerce for the ensuing year, and F. W. Mills vice-Presi-dent. Mr Angus McMaster, one of the oldest f.ettlers in the Wairarapa, died at Greytown on Saturday, aged 88. He has been in the district 47 years.
