CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Auckland, ?>tonday. E. DaimoN, a foreigner, was charged at the Police Court this morning for cruelly illtreating his dog by violently dashing it to the ground. Mr Dufaur appeared to prosecute on behalf of the Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Mr Baddoly characterised tbe case as a disgraceful one and sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of £10 and costs, and in doing so he said he would in all future cases of cruelty to animals inflict imprisonment instead of fines. The Clerk asked the man if he would pay £12 14s or take a month He took tho latter alternative.
