THE HESSIAN FLY.
[I'HK.SS ASSOCIATION.]
Wki.i.in'cto.v, Monday. At the annual meeting of the Philosophical Society, Win. Masked, Kit. M.S., read a paper on tlie Hessian Ki.v son! from l.lie Rangitikei district, and paid ho had subjected the .specimens to careful miciosc ipic examination, and expressed the opinion that it was the true Hessian ¥\y or " Bun scourge." Further examination proved, that mi sooner did the fly make its appearance than it was attacke 1 by parasitic enemies which he hoped would greatly assist in keeping it in check. The insect was. perhaps, the worst pest that lias yet arrived in the colony, he suggested that when the farmer observed indications i.f its presence in a crop lie should cut the stubble as low as possible, and then burn it, after which the debris should be buried as deeply as possible.
