A SWIMMING DISPUTE.
TO T!IK EDITOR. _ Sib, —A ditKculty has arisen in connection wi}h the Waikato Anniversary Swimming Races held 011 , the river, which I have been asked by lie committoo to refer to you for a decision. In the Men's Race, Mr Missen deliberately stopped about nO yards from tho winning post, he bting two chain ahead, and waited for the next man, allowing him to win. Under these circumstances who should receive first and who second prize? I may say that tho committee. have disqualified Missen from again computing in any race with which they have anything to do. As swimming is now coming prominently before the people of Waikato. this is a question that should be decided at once and for all. H. Smith, Hon. Sec. Waikato Anniversary Swimming Races. [According to the best authorities, and the usual racing rules, the committee can disqualify Missen, but cannot refuse to pay the first and second prizes to Kiely and Missen respectively.—El). W. T.]
