CAMBRIDGE.
Road Board Meeting.—The Taotanron Road Board met at the Criterion Hotel, Cambridgejon Saturday at 11 a.m. Present : Messrs N. Hunt (chairman,) C. M. and H. H. Brunskill. The chairman drew the attention iff the board to a portion »t the Cambridgo-T’auranga road that was in the Taotaoroa district, where t|(e track now used was not on the surveyed road, it having taken about a chain to the right of it, for the purpose of avoiding a slight rise of ground. Ho suggested that the surfaceman —who is now at work on a portion of the said road, should make a cutting, and bring the track intuits proper place.—Resolved that the work as suggested be done. Mr C. M. Brunskill said the Government refused to have anything to do with the Gorton-oxford road, and asked if it would not be expedient for the board to repair it. The other members thought it was the duty of the Piako County Council. The clerk said the ridings of Toatoarna, Waitoa, and Matamata had been sacrificed to the goldfields. If the county council could get rid of the tramway debt, the road boards would then receive the subsidies, and the Toatoarna one would have ample funds to take over the road and keep it in repair.— Mr H. R. Brunskill said ho would endeavour to get the county council, of which he was a member to appropriate a portion of the general fund for repairing the road. Two accounts were passed for payment, viz., T. Wattam, £5 Is; and the clerk £5; This was all the business. TjljC High Schooi,.—We are pleased to learn there is evgry probablity that the scheme tor getting residents <)f the Waikato to send their children to the Cambridge High School, by providing boarding accommodation will be a success. Wo think the Waikato should be capable of supporting at least one High School, if not more. Departure op Mr Wir,i,a. —Mr Wills, reporter, is about to sever his connection with the journal with which ho has been connected. During his residence in the district, Mr Wills has gained the esteem of all with whom he has coma in contact in his pnffVssional capacity and his many friends will regret fo learn of his intention to leave at an early date. Cricket Association.—After the county match had been played a meeting was held for tlie purpose of forming a Waikato Cricket Association, representatives of Taupiri, Tuikaramea, Patpfangi, and Cambridge being present, but in oonscquence of Hamilton not being represented, the meeting was adjourned until a date when they can he present.
